Two questions and a photo. That's the whole thing.
Australian toilets vary more than American or Japanese ones, so before you order a Bondi or a Byron we need to know two things about yours. It takes about thirty seconds.
Question 1 — what shape is your bowl?
D-Shape
Flat or squared-off at the back where the seat meets the cistern, curving to a rounded front. Also called V-shape by some manufacturers. This is the most common shape on modern Australian toilets.
O-Shape
A continuous oval or round bowl with no flat edge at the back. Common on older pans and most one-piece toilets.
Quick test: lift your current seat and look at the shape of the porcelain rim, not the seat itself. If the back edge is straight, you're D-Shape. If it curves the whole way around, you're O-Shape.
Question 2 — which side is your water inlet on?
Stand facing the toilet. Find the flexible hose that runs into the bottom of your cistern. If it enters on your left, choose Left Inlet. If it enters on your right, choose Right Inlet.
This determines which side the T-valve and hose run on, so the plumbing sits flat against the wall instead of looping across the back of your toilet.
